Wear your ashes with pride, not as a sign that you are holy, but that you are a sinner in need of repentance. While you are waiting to get your ashes focus on your life and where you need God's mercy most.
Today is also a day of fasting. Fasting is one larger meal, with two smaller meals and no meals in between. All of those in good health are encouraged to fast.
Action for Today
Don't forget to pick up your rice bowl when you get your ashes. Start a rice bowl with the money you saved from fasting. When you put the money in the rice bowl focus on the loving sacrifice you are sharing with those in need.
The purpose of the rice bowls is to locate them on the dining table in your home and place in the bowl any money you save through doing sacrifices during the season of Lent. Learn more about where the rice bowl collections go. LEARN MORE
