Day 21 John The Baptist
John the Baptist was a prophet in the times of Jesus. Unlike the prophets of the Old Testament whose prophetic visions foretold the coming of the Messiah, John the Baptist prepared the way by telling the people that the Messiah was here and soon he would come.
There had been no prophets for hundreds of years and the people came to John in droves to hear him. John the Baptist invited the people to confess their sins and then he baptized them with a baptism of repentance and urged them to reform their ways and to follow God’s commandments. When Jesus did come to John the Baptist, John the Baptist told the people “behold, the Lamb of the God”.
John prepared the way for the people to be ready for Jesus. John’s prophetic words still speak to us today, 2000 years later, to repent and to prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord.
