He lived the Gospel and lived in complete poverty one with nature. In in his simplicity and love for others he attracted people from all walks of life.
We can all learn a lot from St. Francis of Assisi, but not by setting our sights on a grand plan to save the world, but by simply living to love all of God's creation. Through simple gestures of love, we can change the world around us, one smile, one act and one prayer at a time.
As we discussed, there are so many simple ways to help others, help out at hospitality, donate food or time to Sandwich Sunday, drop off needed foods at the food pantry, donate blood, spend an afternoon at Skid Row, participate in a right to life rally, donate baby supplies to the pregnancy center and many other opportunities.
It is not important how much you do or how much money you give but how much you love. Look at every person in need as if you were looking into the face of Jesus as St. Francis of Assisi did. Sometimes it can be a little trying and other times we may have to pray on it, but through prayer and simple acts of love each day we can change the world around us.
In the words of St. Francis of Assisi, "Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love."
