As we celebrate the feast day today of St. Stanislaus, a candidate for Saint hood is honored with the Medal of Honor for his service as chaplain during the Korean War.
Fr Emil Kapaun, a rural priest in Kansas, joined the US Army Chaplains Corp and was transferred to Korea where he worked alongside everyone and earned their respect as he came to the aid of anyone in need. He gave his life for what he believed in. He died in the line of duty and was declared a "Servant of God" by the Vatican. His former diocese is pushing that he be delcared a Martyr which would push his beatification for Sainthood.
At the link there are pictures and a video of the ceremony that was held today. In this photo he is pictured performing mass from the hood of his jeep.
